The Brouwers Beek is what nowadays is the Brouwerskolk, where the dunes start on the West side of Haarlem. Our drawing is annotated on it's original mount in contemporary handwriting by a 17th-century collector d' Brouwers Beek Buijten haerlem.
The close surroundings of the Haarlem dunes with Kennemerland, Esate Elswout, Brouwerskolk and Kraantje Lek were popular locations for painters and draughtsman from the seventeen-century with Jacob van Ruisdael, Anthonie Waterloo, Gerrit Berckheyde and Jan van der Heyden followed by eighteenth and nineteenth century artists like Egbert van Drielst and Jurriaan Andriessen.
